Minnesnowta's Anthony Davis wins another COMO Player of the Week award; St. Louis moves to 15-011/14/2016 NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Monday morning, the league office announced that Minnesota power forward Anthony Davis had earned his second COMO Player of the Week of the 2016-2017 season (and the 13th of his career). Davis helped the Chill go 5-0 and re-enter the projected playoff field at 9-6. He averaged 36.75 bones over four starts, racking up 32.75 points per game, 9.25 rebounds and 2.75 blocks. Per ESPN Stats & Info, Davis is only the 10th player in NBA history to record 300 points and 100 rebounds in his team's first 10 games of a season (among the others on the list packed with Hall of Fame players: Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabaar, Shaquille O'Neal and Jerry West). "What can I say, man ... Davis is the kind of player you dream of having on your team," Minnesowta GM Matthew Taylor said. "To lead us to a 5-0 week without (Al) Horford was huge." Taylor announced a "Unibrow giveaway" for the first 5,000 fans that get to the Icehouse for the Chill's game vs. Minneapolis. The GM took a chance on Davis this past winter, when he unloaded Hassan Whiteside, Gorgui Dieng, former lottery selection Dante Exum and a second-round pick for the rights to Davis' massive contract. Thus far, it's looked like a smash for both teams. St. Louis (née Hollywood) used the extra cap space to build a contender (see below) and 'Snowta now has the early MVP favorite. St. Louis still undefeated The Hollywood Hornets went a league-worst 19-63 last season. Now, less than a month into their new campaign, the newly-christened St. Louis Hornets are 15-0 and four wins away from matching that awful total. When he traded Anthony Davis to Minnesnowta this past January, St. Louis GM Aaron Connolly Nutting predicted his team would win a championship in "2018." The Hornets are a year ahead of schedule, thanks to a draft-day trade that brought John Wall and Nikola Vucevic to eastern Missouri. Free-agent pickup Kevin Love has also been more valuable than the market estimated this summer. COMO's final unbeaten team will travel to Chanhassen, Minn., for a game against Paisley Park before returning home to square off against second-place Duval United (10-5).

GREELEY, Colo. — The Colorado Hilltoppers' season is effectively over after two weeks. No one expected the Toppers to compete in a brutally competitive league this winter, but their demise has come much swifter than any rational being anticipated. Colorado is now 0-10, with do-it-all star James Harden getting little to no help from his teammates. Despite the team's awful run, Harden was named COMO Player of the Week thanks to a 138-bone week (46.00 average) during which he stacked up 33.67 points per game, 14.00 assists, 7.33 rebounds and 2.00 steals. Colorado will likely owe Harden a $47M extension next offseason; a price tag that might be too much for a rebuilding team. That means Harden will be a big part of this year's trade deadline ... if he doesn't get shipped much sooner. Hang in there, James. |
